Tips & Tricks

Though cooler weather brings a decline in the activity of many types of ticks, a few species, including the deer tick, remain active until temperatures drop below freezing and the ground freezes or is covered in snow. Protect yourself with an easy-to-make solution to spray on your skin, clothes, and even your dog:

Mix 2 parts oil (sweet almond, jojoba, coconut) to 1 part water. Combine with 2 oz. of tea tree oil and pour into a glass spray bottle. Do not use a plastic bottle as tea tree oil reacts to plastic. Shake vigorously before each use.

Trivia

The Boy Scouts of America’s Greater New York Councils expected to have a team
of eight runners racing in the New York City Marathon on November 2nd.

According to comments on the blog “Bryan on Scouting,” (http://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/),
there are only two people who have run every NYC marathon since it first began.
One of them is an Eagle Scout who lives in Manhattan.
