Trivia

Popcorn is a favorite among movie goers, fans in the stands, and TV watchers alike.  Ever wonder how popcorn made its way into American culture?  According to the New York Times, we have Quadequina to thank.

“He was the brother of Chief Massasoit of the Wampanoag Indians, and some people believe that he introduced popcorn to the English colonists (in February 1630), when he brought some along in a deerskin bag as a gift.  There’s evidence that the newcomers ate it for breakfast with milk and sugar, as the first puffed cereal.  They would “pop” it on top of heated stones or by placing the kernels into the hot embers of a fire.  Popcorn had been around for a lot longer though.  Ears of popcorn found in a cave in New Mexico were estimated to be about 5,600 years old, making them truly one of the land’s oldest snacks.”
