Image Upload Improvements

We have improved TroopWebHost's image upload features by adding support for a wide range of file formats. Previously, only JPEG, GIF, and PNG images could be uploaded; as of this update, we now support most image file formats, including TIFF, WebP, AVIF, and HEIC. This will be of particular interest to users of iPhones and other Apple devices, which use HEIC as their default photo format.

Additionally, TroopWebHost will now preserve transparency in uploaded images. This could be useful when, for example, adding a non-rectangular graphic to your Troop's homepage (as seen below).

These changes apply to the Upload & Maintain Photos interface, as well as to any text field that supports inline images.

Merit Badge Updates

TroopWebHost's Merit Badge requirement data has been updated to include the most recent Scouts BSA Advancement Updates. Badges with slight changes to wording were updated in-place, while badges with more extensive changes have had new versions added to our system.

Citizenship in Society Removal

Scouting America has recently discontinued the Citizenship in Society merit badge; see the official announcement for more information. The discontinuation policy allows Scouts who have partially completed the badge to finish it by the end of 2026. Scouts who complete or have completed the badge may still count it toward their Eagle requirements until the end of this period.

To handle these changes at TroopWebHost, we have made the following adjustments:

• Citizenship in Society is no longer set as an Eagle-required badge. This means that our system will not count it toward rank requirements that involve completing a number of Eagle-required badges.
  • This only affects whether these rank requirements will automatically be marked as complete. Users can still check off these requirements manually if appropriate.
• When selecting a merit badge on pages such as Merit Badges -> Add a New Item, Citizenship in Society will be removed as an option as of 1/1/2027.

Other Small Adjustments

The automated newsletter and Scouts' personal sales pages will now refer to each troop member using their Preferred Name, if available, rather than their registered first name.

Spell checking functionality has been restored to all rich text editors in the TroopWebHost web interface. This now uses your web browser's built-in spell checker instead of a third-party plugin, so any words you have added to your browser's dictionary will be recognized. If you do not see any red underlines below misspelled words, please check that your browser's spell checker is enabled.

Requirements 6.a and 6.b of the Star rank are now tracked individually; previously, they had been represented by a single Requirement 6 item.
